Every page in these guides uses only words the screen shows, or words on this list. A word in bold on a page is defined where it first appears; this page holds the ones that appear everywhere. ## The Record | Word | What it means | | ------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Modelled** | Worked out by the app from public data. The number says which model. | | **Measured** | Read by a device at a time. The number says which device and when. | | **Record** | One thing that happened on a field: a spray, a spread, a move, a harvest, a note. | | **Evidence grade** | How strongly a record proves itself: **in the field** when it was written within the day, on the field, with a photo or a reading; **typed later** when it was not. | | **Pack** | The compliance pack: every record an inspector asks for, as one download, with a cover. | | **Regime** | One set of rules the farm answers to: NVZ, SFI, the spray record, Red Tractor. | | **Key date** | A date the law sets for a field: a closed period, a heap's move-by date, a cutting period. | | **Decision** | One line on Today: a rule, a window or a reading that wants something this week. | ## The Land | Word | What it means | | ---------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Field** | An outline on the map with a crop. The unit everything else attaches to. | | **Zone** | A part of a field you treat differently: a wet corner, a sandy headland. | | **Stable** | Zones that keep their order year after year in the satellite archive. Only a stable field can export a rate plan. | | **NDVI** | A satellite measure of how green a field is. Greener is a stronger canopy. | | **Cover** | How much grass is on a field, in kilograms of dry matter per hectare. | | **Residual** | The cover to leave when the herd moves off, about 1,500 kg DM/ha. | | **Feature** | Something on the farm map that is not a field: a store, a heap, a ditch, a borehole. | | **Siting check** | The distance the rules want between a feature and water, measured on the map. | ## The Rules | Word | What it means | | ----------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Closed period** | The weeks each year when certain manures and fertilisers must not be spread on a field. Set by the nitrate regulations. | | **N-max** | The most nitrogen a crop may get in a year, averaged over the farm. | | **NVZ** | A nitrate vulnerable zone. Most of England is one; Wales and Northern Ireland are whole-territory. | | **SSAFO** | The rules on where a slurry store, a silage clamp or a fuel store may sit, and how far from water. | | **RB209** | The AHDB nutrient management guide. The nutrient plan uses its tables. | | **MAPP number** | The approval number on a spray product's label. | | **LERAP** | The buffer strip rule beside water when spraying. | | **SFI** | The Sustainable Farming Incentive, England's agri-environment scheme. | | **CPH** | The county / parish / holding number. What an inspector asks for first. | | **SBI** | The Single Business Identifier, the number the Rural Payments service knows the business by. | ## The Weather | Word | What it means | | ----------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Delta-T** | The gap between the air temperature and the wet-bulb temperature. Whether a spray will land and stay. | | **Window** | The run of hours in which a job can be done: a spray window, a drilling window. | | **GDD** | Growing degree days, the heat a crop has had.
