# Log a Soil Sample

> Enter the lab's P, K, Mg and pH for a field. The nutrient plan is worked out from them.

  <Step title="Open the field, then Nutrient plan">
    At the bottom of the plan is **Soil samples**, every sample on record with its lab and date.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add sample">
    Tap **Add sample** and enter the date, the lab, and the indices as the report gives them: P, K and Mg as index numbers, pH as a number. Then save.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read the plan again">
    The plan is recalculated from the new sample, including the P, K and Mg recommendation and the lime needed to reach the target pH.

## What You See Next

The inspection list ticks **Soil analysis under five years old** for the field. A sample older than five years is what the Farming Rules for Water ask about first.

## If It Does Not

| You see                          | It means                                         | Do                                                          |
| -------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------- |
| The lab gives mg/l, not an index | The plan wants the index                         | Use the index the lab prints beside it; RB209 has the table |
| The plan did not change          | The sample is older than the one it already used | Check the date                                              |
| No Nutrient plan                 | The field has no crop                            | What is growing, then plant a variety                       |
