# Open the Manure Plan

> The manure management plan is worked out from the herds, the stores and the fields, so nothing is entered twice.

**Before you start.** The farm has a herd. [Move a Herd](/how-do-i/map/move-a-herd) starts with adding one.

  <Step title="More, Livestock, then the plan">
    Tap **Open the manure management plan**. It starts with the year's nitrogen from livestock against the 170 kg N/ha whole-farm limit, then goes field by field.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Record what came on or went off">
    Under **Manure brought on and sent off**, enter the type, the tonnes and where it came from or went to. The plan adds it to, or takes it from, the farm's total.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Export it">
    **Export plan PDF** prints it in Defra's order. The storage weeks the closed period needs are on the same page.
  </Step>

## What You See Next

The plan is one of the pack's documents. It changes whenever a herd moves, a store is drawn or a load is recorded.

## If It Does Not

| You see                     | It means                                                   | Do                                                            |
| --------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------- |
| The limit is exceeded       | Too many head for the hectares                             | Record what is sent off; the plan says how much               |
| The storage weeks are short | The stores you drew hold less than the closed period needs | Draw the store you have with its capacity, or plan the export |
