# Livestock and the Manure Plan

## What It Tells You

The **Livestock** page lists the farm's herds: the type, the head, where each is now and since when. A herd move is a record like any other. From the herds and the moves the app works out the farm's manure: how much nitrogen the stock produces, whether the farm is within the 170 kg N/ha whole-farm limit, what storage the slurry needs, and where the manure can go.

## How It Works

A herd's type comes from the 43 categories in Schedule 1 of the Nitrate Pollution Prevention Regulations 2015, each with its standard nitrogen production per animal per year. Head times days on the holding gives the nitrogen the farm must account for. Moving a herd to a field, or housing it, is a tap on the herd's row; it appears on the field, on the Map's herd layer and on the Records timeline.

The **manure management plan** is built from that record in the order Defra's guidance sets out.

The plan is a document in the compliance pack under the nitrogen record, and the heaps it registers are checked for the twelve-month move rule. The organic nitrogen lines in the field records take their available N from the manure type and the spreading method, using the standard values.
